This is definitely an experiment. I have read ghost stories before but none like this. My tastes usually runs towards stories with the friendly neighborhood Casper type ghosts or those kind that you can sympathize with owing to their tragic demise with a historical mystery to solve. So a book designed to scare you out of your wits is a first........
The story starts with Perry a down on luck 22 year old receptionist with a failed stunt woman career who wants to make something of her life. Her life takes a turn for the better or the worse depending on your point of view when she decides to explore her uncle's abandoned light house with a cam coder to boot. She runs into Dex a producer in search of a new show and some very interesting paranormal happenings during her little misadventure which forms the basis for the rest of the story. Getting out of the lighthouse in one piece Perry decides to blog about her experience becoming an overnight sensation and landing an offer from Dex to have her very own "Ghost Hunter" TV show. But on one condition....Perry has to visit the light house one more time. Will this one time be her last time??? Especially since the evil lurking in the shadows has marked her as their own. You have to read this book to find out...
The book is a solid Okay read. The thing is I really enjoyed the voice of the main character. The author has created someone rooted in reality while grappling with fantasy. All through out the book she delivers some very interesting one liners that had me laughing out loud. As for the male lead, I am not a big fan of half crazy guys who acts the part but the whole time I was reading about Dex I kept imagining Robert Downey Jr so couldn't help being entranced(and yes, I am a Robert Downey fan). There were definitely some scary moment but not that scary as to keep you up at night. The writing style is refreshing and the descriptions of the ghost confrontations vivid and imaginative. Yet, the book lacks a certain quality that has the power to keep you hooked. The truth is though I enjoyed Perry's observation once you are past the middle half of the book it feels a lot like a monologue. I was really annoyed by Perry's instant attraction to Dex. Who in their right mind gets attracted to a strange guy whom they have met at a haunted light house and that too when they are having an encounter with the paranormal.Except for this flaw Perry is a real character with real problems like weight issues, guy trouble and insecurities . The lack of answers doesn't help the book's cause. In the end the book left me with more questions than answers. So for those of you who are willing to try your hand in a book whose story is scattered over a series of books and has a love for the "Ghost Hunter" show, this is a must read. Other wise you are not losing much by skipping.
